Ex Libris

Before computers and e-readers, books were the everyday reading platform, and one of the most commonly used ways to indicate that a book was your book and not someone else’s book was to stamp it with a decorative label known as an ex libris (Latin for “From the books of…”), followed by your name.

This is Albert Einstein’s ex libris. How fucking awesome is that? Most likely a sketch from one of his notebooks, right? I would love to know what Einstein was working on when he drew this.

Where Did You Get That?

More often than not, I’ll be asked the proverbial, “Where did you get that?” from designers and friends alike. To remedy this situation and make it easy for everyone to share my findings, I’ve compiled the following list of my favorite/daily sites and tools.

Designer News (great resource)

Blokk Font (text place holders)

Placehold.it (image place holders)

CSS3PS (turns your PS layers into CSS)

Corner Editor (PS Script for rounding corners)

GuideGuide (quickly create grids for designing websites in PS)

Font Combinator (try various title and body web fonts)

Swatch You Doing? (pick a color scheme)

Designers Mix (musical motivation via playlists)

Good Fucking Design Advice (well, you know)

  • Glasses are more often than not, a pain in the ass. I’ve never been the biggest of wearing them, but after having an HSA (Health Savings Account) for some time now, I needed an outlet to spend some of this $$. A couple of pairs of Rayban’s later (one being stolen), I decided it was time for something new.  Enter Warby Parker. The stylish, yet inexpensive alternative to the Luxottica owned branches of the country.
My particular purchase was spawned when I heard of Warby’s recent announcement of the limited edition Hayworth Collection.  I’m a big fan of this classic, yet modern style. I ordered with little hesitation and the process was easier than ordering a pizza. (Given you have your prescription.)
10 days later, these arrived at my door. They’ve only been on my face for an hour or two, so I can’t give an opinion on their durability over time, but hey, so far so good.

Hello.

Is anyone out there? I can’t see many people reading this. Simply because it’s nothing interesting (at the moment). To those of you who are interested, well, I thank you for that. Anyways, why am I creating this (some would say another) blog?

I needed to have a place to write things over 140 characters. To use the power of words to express my feelings about design, marketing, and anything else I feel deserves the key strokes.
